Working hard for the people of the East Midlands
The plan outlines how Labour will deliver more jobs and a fairer workplace for women in the future including here in the East Midlands. As families face increased pressures both at home and at work, Labour believes that the balance between work and family life is more important than ever. Since 1997, Labour has championed parental leave, flexible working for parents and greater childcare provision. Labour has also toughened up the laws on anti-discrimination to make the workplace fairer for women. In the launch today in Bolton, Harriet Harman set out Labour’s manifesto pledges to support working women and families.
Harriet Harman said:
Harriet Harman, Deputy Leader of the Labour Party, has today launched 'Your job. Your choice' - a plan which sets out the big choice at this election facing working mums and families.
"Over the last 13 years, more women have gone out to work than ever before and Labour is the only party who has listened to the concerns of women as they balance bringing up their family or care for elderly or disabled relatives with earning a living.
"To help working mums, Labour has also pledged to expand nursery provision to three and four year olds and will deliver more action, such as Child Tax Credits and an increased minimum wage, for women and working families during the global economic downturn.
"We have done a great deal to back up women at work – from rights to flexible working and increased maternity pay and leave to toughening up the law on anti-discrimination.
"There’s a stark choice ahead and the Labour Party is building a future that is fair for all"
