Working hard for the people of the East Midlands
Kimberley Cllr Richard Robinson has slammed the decision of the Coalition government to cut funding for Nottinghamshire Police and the impact this is going to have in the area.
Last night at the Kimberley Community Action Team meeting it was announced that the police station in Kimberley is set to close from 1 September, and the two dedicated police officers for the area be sent back to Eastwood.
Cllr Robinson stated: "I could not believe the news that was announced last night which is a real kick in the teeth for local residents and especially the local police who have constitently worked so hard to help successfully reduce crime over the past few years". He added: "I would have thought that the last thing we need to see is a cut back in front line policing".
Local resident in Kimberley Mary McGuckin who works at the Nelson and Railway Hotel in the town stated: "The strenuous efforts that the police have made over the past few years to crack down on crime has really been noticed and the area is currently much safer as a result". She further commented: "I don't think the people of Kimberley will be happy to take this decision without a fight, and I want to work with local campaigners to see whether we can get this decision overturned".
