A staggering 18,270 Mansfield and Warsop pensioners are set to lose their Winter Fuel allowance under new Conservative Party manifesto pledges, representing 84% of those eligible in Mansfield and Warsop.
The introduction of means testing for the payments means pensioners in Mansfield and Warsop will be struggling to heat their homes this winter.
Alan Meale, Labour’s candidate for Mansfield in the upcoming General Election said;
“The Conservative Party seem to be picking on pensioners around here. From scrapping the Triple Lock on pensions to cutting winter fuel payments to the bone, I know pensioners will be asking one simple question at this election - why us? The sun may be shining on Mansfield at the moment, but it simply isn’t good enough that local Pensioners are being left out in the cold by the Conservative Party like this.”
Alan Meale is pledging to protect Winter Fuel Payments and free bus passes for everyone over the age of 60 in Mansfield and Warsop.
Labour will protect pensioner incomes by legislating to keep the Triple Lock on state pensions over the lifetime of the next parliament. This means pensions for local people will rise each year by whichever is highest: average earnings, inflation or 2.5 per cent.
