MORE THAN 30 LOCAL HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS DECLARE SUPPORT FOR LABOUR CANDIDATE BETH MILLER AS SHE VOWS TO PROTECT NHS SERVICES

More than 30 local healthcare professionals have declared their support for Beth Miller, the Labour Party candidate for the Corby and East Northamptonshire seat in June’s general election, after she pledged to protect local healthcare services against proposed government cuts.

With Corby’s Urgent Care Centre threatened with closure, Miller has outlined her commitment to keeping the centre open for all constituents and committed to fighting for improved funding for the NHS. She will also campaign to ensure that Nene Park Outpatients Clinic in Irthlingborough remains fully resourced.

Today, on International Nurses Day, Miller and Cllr Tom Beattie, Leader of the Labour Group on Corby Borough Council, will meet with Prof. Robert Harris, CEO and General Partner of the Lakeside Healthcare Group which owns the Urgent Care Centre.

Lakeside is one of NHS England’s 14 national ‘Vanguard’ sites and provides primary care services out of both Willowbrook and Forest Gate Medical Centres for approximately 50,000 residents.

At the meeting, Miller will discuss securing the long-term future of the Urgent Care Centre, as well as Lakeside’s plans to expand its community-based services moving forward.

“People here have a choice in this election,” said Miller. “I’m a local girl, I went to school here and it’s where my friends and family are, so of course I want to protect our vital public health service.

“I’ve spoken to many nurses and other healthcare professionals who have all told me just how dire things are thanks to Tory cuts. This cannot go on,” she said. “As your MP, I would fight to protect local health services and get a better deal for us all. With a growing population in Corby and East Northamptonshire, we must make sure we have a well-funded NHS.”
