Labour's General Election Campaign Deputy, Jonathan Ashworth MP, visited Broxtowe this Sunday as part of his national 'Labour Express' campaign tour.
Teaming up with Labour’s prospective parliamentary candidate, Nick Palmer, Mr Ashworth headed out on the doorstep in Toton and Chilwell Meadows to listen directly to the concerns of local residents.
Jon Ashworth said:"It’s clear Nick Palmer has huge respect in the area. I lost count of the number of times residents described Nick as the best constituency MP they had ever had and want to see him back.
“What's clear is that people locally don't buy the Tory boasts about the economy. Things remain tough and as its gets colder concerns about cost of energy bills is clearly on people's minds. That's why a Labour government would freeze gas and electric bills but also introduce other measures such as expanding childcare and introduce a jobs guarantee for young people."
Nick Palmer added: “It was great to be joined by Jon this weekend.
“My team and I are out talking to local people every weekend and the message is clear – people here in Broxtowe are really struggling and they don’t feel that the government is on their side. If elected as the MP for Broxtowe I am determined to put Broxtowe first and fight for a better deal for local people and businesses right across the constituency.”
