Ed Miliband MP joined Labour's Spring Campaigning Events in the East Midlands

Ed Miliband in Nottingham Whilst Gordon Brown MP, Prime Minister and Leader of the Labour Party, set out the clear choice for the coming election during a speech in Warwick last Saturday, Labour's Energy and Climate Change Secretary, Ed Miliband MP, kick started local campaigns here in the East Midlands.

As part of Labour's Spring Campaign Event, Ed took Labour's message onto the streets of Alfreton and Calverton. Ed, who is also responsible for coordinating Labour's election manifesto, was joined by local candidates Judy Mallaber, MP in Alfreton, and Emilie Oldknow, Labour's PPC for Sherwood, in Calverton.

Talking about his day in the East Midlands, Ed said: "This campaign weekend was about Labour voices being out all over the country talking to voters on the doorsteps about the choice that they face in the coming election.

"Voters will face a big choice about the future that they want for Britain. Labour offers a future fair for all. The Tories talk of change, but it will be the wrong kind of change for the people here in the East Midlands."

Whilst in the region, Ed also joined 20 students from Nottingham for an informal question and answer session. with Nottingham South's Prospective Parliamentary Candidate, Lilian Greenwood.

The Minister stayed for more than 45 minutes answering questions on everything from action to tackle global warming to lowering the voting age to 16. He had a few questions of his own, asking the students what issues would motivate them to go out and vote and what would they like to see in Labour’s manifesto.

Merida Mathen, Chair of Nottingham University Labour Students, said: “It was fantastic to have him here. It’s been a great opportunity for Nottingham students to have an informal chat with a senior member of the government.”

Lilian Greenwood said “It’s vitally important that Labour listens to young people and offers them a positive vision for the future. I know from talking to students here in Nottingham that their greatest concern is whether they’ll be able to find work when they graduate. That’s why Labour’s action to secure a strong economic recovery is so important. We’re also the only party to guarantee a job, work or training to 18-24 year olds – to make sure they don’t suffer the scars of long-term unemployment that blighted so many communities under the last Tory government.”
