Andy Sawford is Labour's choice for Corby and East Northants

Members of the Corby and East Northants Labour Party have selected Andy Sawford to be their candidate for the next general election following a ballot of all members.

Following the result, Andy said: "I am honoured to have been selected by the members of the Corby and East Northamptonshire Labour Party as the Labour candidate for the next general election.

"I will be working hard in all the towns and villages across the constituency to win people's support.

"I will stand up for local communities against the Tory cuts that are unfairly hitting Corby and East Northamptonshire, hurting voluntary organisations, taking away basic things like street lighting, and cutting police officers.

"I am looking forward to working with Labour's team locally, including our great local Councillors, and talking with residents about Labour's alternative, to show that we have the best ideas for the future of our local economy and local services."

Judy Caine, Secretary of Corby Constituency Labour Party said: "I would like to thank all the candidates for taking part. The members had five excellent candidates to choose from and I am delighted that they have selected Andy as their candidate.

"The general election may be a few years away yet, but Corby needs someone who will stand up for local people now and who will campaign against the Tory-led government's cuts and I know that Andy brings with him the experience needed to be an excellent candidate and MP for Corby and East Northants when the next general election is called."
