Popular dispersal zone extended in fight to combat anti social behaviour

John Healey MP, Labour’s Minister for Local Government visited Prospect Shopping Precinct in Worksop yesterday, Monday 21st April 2008, to talk to local residents and Police Community Support Officers about Prospect’s dispersal zone.

The Minister, who was joined by local Labour candidate Shirley Toms, discussed how the area has improved and become safer since the introduction of the dispersal zone.

John Healey said:

"It is good to come here to Prosect to see just how effective this dispersal zones has been. From talking to local residents and PCSO’s today I can see what a huge difference it has made to the local community. People no longer feel as threatened when they come to the shops and I am really pleased that it has been extended for an further six months.

"This really highlights how well the police, local councillors and the local community can work together in combating anti social behaviour."

The dispersal zone was first set up six months ago to tackle anti social behaviour with youths drinking alcohol particularly in the Prospect shopping area.

The dispersal zone proved so successful with local residents and police that it has now been extended until October.
